Why does PhotoGhetto use WinZip file compression format for FTP downloads?
PhotoGhetto uses WinZip to compress its Photo Collections for download.
Due to the size of each Photo Collection, each Collection is compressed to reduce downloading time using WinZip compression software.
Can you tell me more about WinZip and what it does?
WinZip is a file compression utility that enables you to reduce the size of your files by as much as 90%. When downloading over the Internet this is extremely useful, and can save many hours of unnecessary waiting.
For example, a single high resolution uncompressed photo image at 1600 x 1200 pixels has a file size of approximately 1.6 Megabytes. Using WinZip, the file is reduced to just 180 kilobytes enabling you to download the image in 1/10th of the time.
WinZip acheives this by creating a special "holding file" or archive that is able to compress the actual file sizes of the files it contains without affecting the contents of quality of the files, to make the file size smaller for downloading over the Internet.
Once you have downloaded a WinZip file you simply double click it and uncompress to "extract" the files from the archive for use.
If I don't have WinZip on my machine is it free and where can I get it from?
WinZip is free to download and use or can be licensed if you prefer.
If you are using the Macintosh, you are most likely using Stuffit Expander as your preferred compression tool, which expands files of the .sit and .sea extensions. Stuffit Expander also expands WinZip files, which have the .zip file extension.
Stuffit Expander is available freely at Stuff It. And the WinZip application, available from WinZip.
After downloading and installing the WinZip software, you'll need to use the program to 'unzip' your downloaded "zipped" purchase.
When I download my order from PhotoGhetto.com where is it saved?
When you begin to download your order, your browser will prompt where you wish to save the file in the "Save As" window. Select a location you can find easily. Such as on the root of your hard drive or your Desktop.
Why do the photo's have PhotoGhetto.COM written across them?
When you select a thumbnail of any photo image from a Photo Collection, or scroll through the larger image displays, you will notice that each image has has www.photoghetto.com written across it in faint type.
www.photoghetto.com is written across each thumbnail image to enable you to use the low reslution image in layout compositions, and mock ups, whilst protecting it from piracy and users who would otherwise avoid purchasing the full screen resolution photo.
All full resolution purchased photo images on every Photo Collection, do not have www.photoghetto.com written across them, and are ready for use within your presentations, Powerpoint, web sites, DVD, print, and media productions.
What is the difference between a thumbnail and my actual purchase?
A thumbnail is a low resolution version of the final photo image from the Photo Collection. When you select a Photo Collection title, all 24 images on the title are dispalyed as thumbnails. These thumbanil images are created at 150 x 88 pixels and allow you to see a small preview version of a photo image.
When you select and click any photo thumbnail a larger composite, or display version is available for viewing, enabling you to see the thumbnail at a slightly hight resolution but still greatly compressed and with the lettering, www.photoghetto.com written across it. The composite, or display version, is created at 250 x 150 pixels, and like its corresponding thumbnail, is greatly compressed.
Each purchased photo image, on every Photo Collection, is created at 1600x1200 pixels and is uncompressed in its high resolution state, available for use.
What file format are the photo images in?
Each photo image in every Photo Collection is saved in full uncompressed JPG (JPEG), format.
In what resolution are the photo's available?
Each photo image, in every Photo Collection, is colour callibrated and created at 1600x1200 pixels in uncompressed (lossless) high resolution state.
